You can find the recording on the ONFloriculture YouTube channel. While you’re there, check out the whole GrowON series , where an array of videos and webinars covering everything from production to pest management issues are posted. If you are sick of listening to webinars and just want to read stuff the old-fashioned way, here’s a PDF of the presentation. Have any follow up questions? “How-to” Video of the Week: Checking the Quality of Predatory Mite Sachets

Image
The “w alk-out” technique to assess predatory mite sachets. Details on how to do this (and why!) are in the video. Photo by R. Buitenhuis. In this week’s “how-to” video, we’ll continue exploring how to assess the quality of the biocontrol agents you receive. This video focuses on a staple of thrips control – predatory mite sachets. These can be a bit trickier to assess than loose product, but it’s important to use the right technique to avoid underestimating the quality of sachets (something even I’ve been guilty of). Video Description All videos were made by the  Vineland Research and Innovation Centre,  in collaboration with the  Ontario Ministry of Food and Agribusiness (OMAFA) , and are applicable to both greenhouse floriculture and vegetable crops. Ain’t Misbehaving

Image
This is a post I wrote a year ago but didn’t publish. I’ve made a few edits and additions and I am posting it now — I feel a little less at sea this year, but I’m sure the plants are still giggling behind my back. I saw a social media post recently about Creeping Bellflower (Campanula rapunculoides) and ran outside in a panic to see whether the lovely purple spikes I had welcomed into the garden, knowing that they were sneaking in from the alley rather than invited guests, were INVASIVE! Update: My gardeners wanted to pull them; maybe they are the invasive. Who knows. I’ll keep a good eye on them and see how they behave. Thank goodness, no! This gentleman from the University of Wisconsin went over Creeping Bellflower leaf-by-leaf to teach us how to identify it, and my plants are innocent! Well, mostly innocent, not a total thug! (“Never been indicted!” as a certain Chicago alderman used to brag. I believe he is now headed to prison.) It has spread in from the alley, into a couple...
