Greenhouse Biosecurity Workshop – Now in Vineland!

Register for the OSCIA Greenhouse Biosecurity workshop held in-person in Vineland, on August 7th, 2024! Seats still available!

The upcoming workshop is specifically designed for greenhouse growers, both vegetable and floriculture producers. A technical expert will show you the benefits of having a biosecurity program and identify key practices to help you enhance biosecurity for your greenhouse. You will have the opportunity to learn from knowledgeable OSCIA staff about cost-share opportunities and network with fellow growers.

The workshop will be held at Rittenhouse Hall on the Vineland Research Station (4890 Victoria Ave, Vineland Station, Ontario) on August 7th, 2024 from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM

Participation in this workshop is not required for an application to be submitted under the current Biosecurity Improvement Initiative under S-CAP Program. However, participation is highly recommended. Applications to the Biosecurity Improvement Initiative will be accepted on an on-going basis until January 6th 2025.

Deficiencies Got You Down?

No matter where you are in a cropping cycle, nutrition problems can be tricky to figure out. The good thing is they can be differentiated from disease or pest issues based on a few key observations: If the damage is uniform and crop wide , it’s most likely a nutritional issue If the damage is localized or more random , it’s most likely a disease or pest issue How to Spot a Nutrient Deficiency Early detections of any problem can be caught with regular monitoring . Detection is STEP ONE : Figure 1. Common nutrient deficiency indicators for floriculture crops. Nutrient Mobility : When deficient, mobile nutrients will move to the new growth, but immobile nutrients will be trapped in the old growth.
